Spike is a smart laser measurement solution for all kinds of industries and professional use. The Spike device, Spike mobile app, Spike Cloud and your smartphone or tablet work together to change the way measurements are taken and shared. Spike allows you to measure an object simply by taking a photo with your smartphone or tablet. From that photo you can capture real-time measurements, including height, width, area, and length. Today, thousands of people rely on Spike every day to get their field work done more quickly, efficiently and safely.
Spike: The indispensable estimation solution
Photo Measure: real-time measurements from a photo
With Spike, your time to measure an object is reduced to minutes. Simply take a photo of the object you want to measure, such as a building or wall, using the Spike app and your smartphone or tablet. From that photo, capture measurements instantly including areas, heights, widths, and lengths. Photos can be measured using the Spike mobile app or Cloud. You can access your photos at any time to remeasure, eliminating the need to return to the location for additional measurements.
Spike’s photo measurement capability allows you to measure hard-to-reach objects that would have otherwise required additional equipment, labor or tools. All it takes is one person to capture all the measurements you need, and while at a safe location and distance.
Point-to-Point: measure the distance between two objects
Measure the distance between two objects in seconds by capturing two photos. For example, to measure the distance between the side of a house and a nearby tree, a store front and a sign in the parking lot, the side of a highway and a light pole, a utility line and a tree or the ground up to the roof line of a house.
Simply aim Spike at the first object, such as the side of a house, and take a photo. Then, aim at your second object, such as a tree, and take a photo. Spike then calculates the distance between those two objects. In addition to the distance measurement, Spike also calculates the linear distance for vertical and horizontal measurements.
Device and OS
Spike works with commercial Google Android and Apple iOS Smartphones and Tablets. To view a list of recommended devices that have gone through camera calibration procedure and provide the highest level of accuracy, visit the Spike Support Center.
The Spike device connects with your Smartphone or Tablet via Bluetooth. Your device must support BLUETOOTH 4.0 low energy technology.
The Spike device has an Internal Li-ion battery that is charged via a micro USB charging port (a USB cable is included in the box with Spike). Battery life is 4 hours of continuous use.
Spike’s eye safe laser rangefinder supports ranges between 6-650 feet (2-200 meters). The accuracy of Spike’s laser rangefinder is ± 5cm (2 in).
The accuracy of Spike’s laser rangefinder is ± 5cm (2in); the accuracy of Photo Measurements is ± 1%; and the accuracy of Point-to-Point Measurements is ± 3%. For additional information on optimal distances and positions, visit the Spike Support Center.
Spike supports measurements in feet + inches, inches, meters, or centimeters. Unit settings may be changed at any time via the Spike app settings or Cloud settings.
Measurements are stored with the photo and can be shared as a PDF, JPG, Spike File (XML), or KMZ. For Android devices only, additional output includes HMTL. The Spike File is a compressed .ZIP file, which contains the Spike photos and XML file with measurement and location data.
